Protesting readymade garment workers of TNZ Group on Tuesday night suspended their sit-in near chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’s official residence Jamuna in the capital after the government assured them of paying their arrears within seven working days.

Labour and employment ministry decided to pay salaries and service benefits to workers of TNZ Group by selling the TNZ Group’s washing plant and the owner’s house in the Mohakhali DOHS area, said a press release shared by the CA’s press wing regarding the ministry’s five-point decision taken amid protests.


The ministry said that the workers must withdraw their blockade from in front of Srama Bhaban as a consensus was reached.

The ministry also said that initiatives had already been taken to issue a red alert through Interpol to bring the owner back to the country while the director or management of TNZ had been banned from travelling abroad and TNZ’s director of finance would remain in the custody of the government until the dues were paid.

Garments Sramik Mukti Andolan central leader Iqbal Kabir told New Age on Wednesday morning that workers decided to suspend their protest following the assurance from the government.

Workers left the Kakrail Mosque police barricade near Jamuna at about 11:30pm after around eight and a half hours of their sit-in.

Several hundred readymade garment workers of TNZ Group and Ssain Apparels Ltd on

Tuesday held ‘March to Jamuna’ and hours-long sit-in near Jamuna demanding payment of their arrears.

The workers of TNZ Group began their sit-in in front of Shrama Bhaban for the second time from May 12.

Their first sit-in in front of Shrama Bhaban was staged from March 23 to 30.
