Rabindra University, Bangladesh is celebrating ‘Rabindra Jayanti-1432’ with pomp on the occasion of the 164th birth anniversary of world poet Rabindranath Tagore.

Pro-vice-chancellor of the university Professor Suman Kanti Barua and treasurer Professor Feroz Ahmed inaugurated the two-day event on the campus at Shahjadpur in Sirajganj on Tuesday, said a press release.


In a message, vice-chancellor of the university Professor SM Hassan Talukder said East Bengal was the source and inspiration for Rabindranath’s immortal works.

A speech competition on Rabindra Sangeet and Rabindranath Tagore was organised in the morning. Then, Sirajganj deputy commissioner Muhammad Nazrul Islam inaugurated a youth fair.

Later, a discussion meeting, presided over by Rabindra University proctor (acting) Nazrul Islam, was held. Jannatul Mawa Moon, chair of sociology department, Md Kamruzzaman, Shahjadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Md Mainul Islam, chair of bangla department, also spoke.

In the evening, a cultural programme was organised with the performances of Dhaka University, Rabindra University and various schools and colleges students.

A youth fair, documentary exhibition, seminar, closing ceremony and another cultural programme will be organised on the 2nd day on Wednesday.
