The Border Security Force of India pushed 32 more people into Bangladesh through the Bijoypur-Baghmara border at Durgapur upazila in Netrakona district early Wednesday.

With the latest push-ins, the number of people pushed into Bangladesh by India since May 7 has reached 1,304 amid tight security measures taken by the Border Guard Bangladesh and the police along the border, said the BGB headquarters.

Meanwhile, a member of India’s BSF was detained for illegal entry at Chapainawabganj border and later was handed over to the Indian authorities on Wednesday morning, New Age staff correspondent in Rajshahi reported.

A total of 32 individuals, including women and children, were pushed into Bangladesh through the Bijoypur border area of Durgapur at about 3:00am, said Lieutenant Colonel ASM Quamruzaman, commanding officer of the BGB Battalion-31 in Netrakona.

‘They entered India from different districts of the country between 2 months and 10 years ago. They were handed over to the police,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Ganesh Murti, 43, a senior constable of the BSF’s 71 Battalion, stationed at the Nurpur camp, was handed back to the Indian authorities following a flag meeting between the two border forces, said Lieutenant Colonel Fahad Mahmud Rinku, commanding officer of the 53-BGB Battalion in Chapainawabganj.

He said that Bangladeshi villagers chased and detained Ganesh in a drunken state with his weapon and ammunition after Ganesh along with another BSF personnel crossed the border into Bangladesh through the Narayanpur-Satrashia border area under the 53-BGB Battalion while chasing a goat at about 6:50am on Wednesday.

On information, a patrol team of Jahurpur border outpost rescued Ganesh from the villagers, Fahad said, adding that they later handed over the soldier to the Indian authorities following a commander-level flag meeting.

‘The BGB has strongly protested against the illegal intrusion during the flag meeting,’ added the BGB official.
