
Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest Muslim festivals, will be celebrated in Bangladesh tomorrow if the moon is sighted today.
The National Moon-Sighting Committee is scheduled to meet this afternoon to determine the date of Eid-ul-Fitr, religious affairs ministry officials said.
If Ramadan is a 30-day month on the Hijri calendar this time, Eid will be celebrated on Tuesday.
Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, on Saturday evening announced that Sunday, March 30, 2025, would be the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr as the Shawwal crescent moon was sighted on Saturday evening, Gulf News reports.
Eid-ul-Fitr is usually celebrated in Bangladesh a day after the festival is celebrated in Saudi Arabia.
Local authorities have taken all preparations for Eid congregation in cities, district towns, municipalities and upazilas.
Five Eid congregations will be held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka, an Islamic Foundation release said on March 26.
The first congregation, the release said, will be held at 7:00am, the second at 8:00am, the third at 9:00am, the fourth at 10:00am and the last at 10:45am.
Government employees have got a nine-day holiday for Eid, beginning on March 28 until April 5 as the five-day public holiday merges with two weekends and a day holiday announced by an executive order.
Tens of thousands of people have already left Dhaka to celebrate the festival in outlying areas.
The main Eid congregation at the National Eidgah in Dhaka will be held at 8:30am, a Dhaka South City Corporation release said on Saturday.
‘Thirty-five thousand people can attend the Eid congregation at the National Eidgah,’ the release said, adding that law enforcers would be in the ground to ensure security.
The Dhaka North City Corporation in a release on March 25 announced that an Eid congregation would be held at the field beside the Bangladesh-China Friendship International Conference Center at 8:00am.
‘Ten thousand people can attend the Eid congregation,’ the release said, adding that an Eid rally would be held at 9:00am, beginning from the Eid congregation field proceeding to Manik Mia Avenue via Agargaon.
A two-day Eid fair will also be held at the premises of the Bangladesh-China Friendship International Conference from 9:00am to 5:00pm, beginning on Eid day.
