The Bangladesh Bank on Monday withdrew restrictions on foreign travel for officials of non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs).
BB issued a circular in this regard on the day.
Through the circular, Bangladesh Bank allowed them necessary trips abroad with proper approval.
The move comes after a previous directive issued on May 22, 2022, had imposed a strict ban on official foreign travel, including training programs, study tours, exposure visits, meetings, and seminars.
The 2022 directive was introduced in response to post-COVID economic recovery efforts and the global financial crisis, barring all such travel until further notice.
However, it had permitted certain exceptions, including personal foreign trips at one’s own expense, Hajj pilgrimage, emergency medical travel with a doctor’s recommendation, repatriation of foreign employees, and participation in fully-funded programs by international organizers.
The central bank has now allowed NBFI officials to travel abroad for essential official purposes, provided such trips comply with their institution’s travel policy and receive approval from the appropriate authority.
However, any separate travel-related instructions from Bangladesh Bank must still be followed.
