
Defending champions Bangladesh failed to reach the final of the Men’s AHF Cup 2025 after suffering a 5-4 defeat to Oman in the semi-final in Jakarta on Friday.
The loss also ended their hopes of qualifying for the Men’s Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in India from August 27 to September 7.
Oman, along with Chinese Taipei—who thrashed Kazakhstan 7-1 in the other semi-final—secured the spots for the Asia Cup.
Shohanur Rahman Sobuj scored a brace for Bangladesh in the 13th and 54th minutes, while Ashraful Islam and Obidul Hasan Joy added one each.
Aliyas Al-Noufali and Rashad Al Fazari scored twice for Oman, with Fahad Al Lawati scoring the other.
Bangladesh will face Kazakhstan in the third-place playoff on Sunday. Bangladesh confirmed semi-finals berth as Pool B champions after beating Sri Lanka 5-0, Thailand 2-1, Indonesia 3-2 and Kazakhstan 5-1 goals.
