The fourth edition of Bangladesh Short and Documentary Film Festival 2025 ended on Saturday following an awards ceremony at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Six awards in three categories– Best Film, Best Director and Special Jury Award– were handed over on the occasion.


Short film Phulera Poshak Parena, directed by Aasif U Hamid, won the Best Film Award in the short film category while Salma Sultana Asha won the Best Director Award for her film titled Silence in the Chaos, and Zayed Siddiki won the Special Jury Award in the same category for his film Darkak.

Best Film Award in the documentary category went to Saidy Hasan Rabby’s Waiting For Cinema while he also was awarded the Best Director Award for this film.

Special Jury Award in the documentary category went to Masudur Rahman for his documentary titled The Scrap.

Besides, four special awards– Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound Design, and Best Production Design were also announced in both the categories at the event.

Sadiqul Islam Jubayer and Billal Hosen jointly won Best Cinematography Award for their film titled Silence in the Chaos while Azharul Haque won Best Editing Award for the film tiled Ghore Fera and Ahsan Al Miraj won Best Sound Design Award for the film titled Necklace. Najmul Muhammad won Best Production Design Award for his film Necklace.

The Best Film Award winners received Tk 1, 50,000 and a crest each, and Best Director Award winners received Tk 1, 00,000 and a crest each, while Special Jury Award winners received Tk 50,000 and a crest each.

Special awards winners received Tk 30,000 and a crest each as prize money.  

Filmmaker Shaheen Dill-Riaz, Ashfaque Nipun, Humaira Bilkis and cinematographer Rashed Zaman, BSA acting director general Mohammad Wares Hossain and BSA drama and film department director Faiz Zahir were on the jury.

Organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the festival kicked off on May 27 simultaneously at its eight divisional headquarters.

This edition screened 89 films– 60 short films and 29 documentaries.
